Yacht charter Montenegro

Dream destinations Montenegro

The special thing about Montenegro is that this area is comparatively little developed. Here you can rent a yacht and explore the beautiful landscape of Montenegro in peace. Europe's largest bay, the Boka Kotoska, i.e. the Bay of Kotor, is surrounded by steep mountain slopes. Due to its protected location, the spectacularly beautiful bay is a real light wind area. With its diverse landscape, the area is also recommended as a relaxed family area. In the Boka Kotoska there are some islands that you should see: These include the flower island on which the ruins of an Orthodox monastery of St. Michael the Archangel stands or the island of Gospa od Skrpjela. The picturesque mini-island is built with a church. The artificial elevation in the middle of the Bay of Kotor probably has its origin in a reef and old sunken ships. The locals still celebrate this today with a festival called Fašinada, where they throw stones into the sea to enlarge the island. You can also visit the island of Mamula at the entrance to Boka Kotorska, on which a well-preserved fort from the Austro-Hungarian rule is picturesquely.

Throughout history, Montenegro's territory has repeatedly been claimed by different nations. This also shapes the image of most cities from Venetian palaces to Romanesque cathedrals. Kotor is the undisputed most beautiful city in Montenegro. The car-free old town hardly has a modern building. City walls, palaces and churches - everything here is original and historical. Countless peoples have left their mark on the link between East and West. You will certainly want to pay a visit to the small town of Hercig Novi at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor during your yacht charter trip in Montenegro. The picturesque town has similarities to neighboring Dubrovnik, but is nowhere near as crowded. Enjoy a stroll along the beach promenade and through the old town. Less than 20 nautical miles from the entrance to the Bay of Kotor is the center of Montenegrin tourism, the city of Budva. Here you can expect beautiful bays and beaches and an impressive old town, but also a well-developed tourist offer and the tourists belonging to it. If you like, you can continue to Bar from here. The city is basically divided into two parts: The “new bar” has an excellent maritime infrastructure and, with its ferry and loading operations, smells more like work than vacation. Use the stop for a trip to the old "Stari Bar" located 4 kilometers inland. The two thousand year old, now abandoned city shows restored ruins that provide an insight into the history of the ancient settlement.

The coast of Montenegro has the classic Mediterranean climate with dry, warm and sunny summers and mild winters. From May to August inclusive, the average temperature is always over 20 degrees Celsius. July and August are the hottest months with temperatures of 30 degrees and more. The average sea water temperatures are between 18 and 23 degrees Celsius from May to October.

The south in particular attracts with constant summer weather and bathing temperatures from April to October. Due to the moderate weather and the protected offshore islands, Croatia is a perfect entry area, which also offers families and beginners the opportunity to set sail. Thanks to the varied coastal landscape, you will never get bored on board and a dense network of well-developed marinas and harbors make sailing happiness perfect. Free anchoring is hardly possible due to the many buoy fields that are subject to a fee.

However, despite the mostly constant weather, sailors have to be vigilant because the weather on the Adriatic can change quickly. The three winds bora, maestral and sirocco (also jugo) are predominant on the Croatian coast.

Montenegro Tradionell

The cuisine of Montenegro is typically Mediterranean and very diverse. It gets its special character in meat, fish and vegetable dishes from influences from Arab regions and the Balkans. In Montenegro, many things are still grown or produced in a very traditional way: fruit and vegetables, milk, cheese, bread, ham, jams as well as wine and various spirits are produced on site.

During your yacht charter in Montenegro you can traditionally enjoy Popara for breakfast on board, a kind of porridge made from stale bread that is boiled in milk and refined with the cream cheese Kajmac, butter and sugar.

Ham and cheese from the mountain village of Njegusi are popular starters. Cevapcici, small fried or grilled minced meat rolls, are of course particularly recommended for meat dishes. Roast lamb or kid roasted in milk are also popular dishes.

Depending on the season, Montenegrin coastal fishermen land red mullets, dentex, golden mackerel, bonitos, anchovies and squid. In the clear mountain rivers and mountain lakes you can catch carp, trout and bleak, small white fish from the carp family, which are also smoked. Fish is cooked on the grill "na gradele" or in a herbal broth "leso". Brodetto is a fish stew, usually with different types of fish, that is served with polenta. Buzarra are mussels or clams steamed in white wine and herb stock. An aubergine stew with an Arabic character is Imam Bayeldi. Potatoes, rice, polenta or homemade macaruli, ie macaroni, are served as side dishes. Typical desserts are Sirinica cheesecake and donuts baked in oil and drizzled with honey, called Priganice.

Montenegro also produces two well-known wines in the Crmnica region: Vranac, a ruby red wine and the white wine Krstac. Niksic is a refreshing local light beer. The Montenegrins like to drink raki and another grape brandy as spirits. We wish you a nice trip with a lot of fun!
